Is Social Media Really Social?
A Quick Recap From My Blog Launch So Far
So, it has been five months since I launched my blog, and I thought I’d share a quick recap of how it has been going. The responses have been mostly very positive and supportive, which has been amazing — thank you to all those kind humans who have shared my blog and continue to comment on and read it.
The newsletter is fixed now, so if you sign up, it’s working properly and you won’t miss a thing.
I’ve also been accepted to ShopMy, which is linked to my Instagram. So, if you find a piece you love on my homepage, you’ll also be able to shop for it through ShopMy, if you like.
So far, I would say that it’s going okay for five months in. But honestly, I don’t really know.
Everyone I’ve spoken to so far has told me that, in order to make the blog successful, I need to be successful on social media and that is where I’m struggling.
I find it, in all honesty, quite overwhelming.
I wrote another article about not being one of the cool girls in one of my earlier blog posts, and this pressure to become an influencer in order to make my blog successful is almost making me want to quit the whole operation.
Because there are a number of great influencers here in Munich, and they all know each other and are thriving. All of their posts look amazing, and I have no idea how they do it.
I met a really nice and successful influencer quite recently through one of my best friends. I commented on one of her posts because she was sharing a little bit about her story and mentioned that she thought some people might find her posts cringe. Now she is really successful, and I replied to her saying that I had just started and was still at the beginning of my own climb up that mountain of cringe.
She was kind enough to reply and tell me to just keep going. And that quick little interaction made me hopeful that it could work and that you can really make new, genuine connections through social media.
I am very lucky that my best friend takes me to every event she gets invited to, so I have the opportunity to make myself and the blog more visible, which is amazing in itself. But I find it really hard to just go up to people and talk myself up to them.
Maybe I am also just stuck in my head, and they would actually be really helpful and understanding, because everyone has to start somewhere at one point, I guess.
But I still find it really hard.
The blog and the social media that comes with it should, at their core, be about inspiring people and making them feel more at ease — and, in the best case, just having a little fun. But sometimes I miss having fun myself when I get lost in that world and in everything I haven’t accomplished yet.
So, let’s see how this journey continues.
How do you feel about all of this? Can you relate to my struggle, or not at all — and should I just get out of my head?
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
Lots of love,
Alisa
